Shrubby monoecious perennial with dense stellate hairs. Leaves lanceolate to elliptic or ovate, the broadest leaves slightly cordate at the base. Flowers in fascicles. Male flowers without bracteoles but with 4, hairy, membranous perianth segments; female flowers without a perianth but with 2 stellate-hairy bracteoles which are united to above the middle and plicate. Fruit silky-hairy. Style short. Stigmas 2, filiform. Seed erect. Pericarp membranous. Embryo green, thick, horse-shoe-shaped.Fl. 7-8. In gravelly and rocky steppe soils, 1200-2000 m.
