Tuber large, to 15 cm diam., globose or depressed-globose, corky, rooting from base. Leaves fully developed at flowering-time in spring, broadly cordate, to 15 cm wide, acute or obtuse, margins somewhat thickened, closely and bluntly denticulate. Corolla large, white or pale pink with a darker, purplish basal zone, lobes exauriculate, 2-4,5 cm. Style shortly exserted. Fruiting pedicels arcuate but not coiling. Fl. 2-4. In Pinus brutia woodland, evergreen Quercus macchie, and on open rocky slopes, usually on limestone, s.l.-800 m.
