Biennial or perennial with erect stems 50-100 cm. Stem and leaves floccose. Basal leaves petiolate, 7-11 cm, elliptic, dentate to ± lyrate; cauline amplexicaul with dentate auricles, 4-10 cm, oblong-elliptic to ovate, dentate to lobed, rarely entire. Capitula radiate, 2-3 cm broad, borne in a lax corymb. Phyllaries 4.5-7 mm, oblong, acute, with wide scarious margin, glabrescent to floccose. Caly-cular bracts 3-4 mm, linear. Ligules 8-10 mm, yellow. Achenes pubescent. Pappus creamy brown. Fl. 7-8. Riversides, marshy ground and damp places, 700-2000 m.
