Perennial. Stems ascending, 10-30 cm, densely white- or reddish-brown lanate, leafy and producing several short sterile branches in lower part but leafless above, 1-capitulate. Leaves 1,5-4 x 0,2-0,4 cm, linear, lanate, segments 1,5-2,5 mm. Capitula solitary on 8-15 cm leafless peduncles, becoming slightly thickened at maturity. Involucre campanulate, 0,7-2 cm broad; phyllaries lanceolate or oblong, lanate or tomentose, 5-9 x 2 mm, sometimes with dark brown tips. Paleae linear-Ianceolate, 5-7 mm. Ray flowers 10-25, ligules oblong or subrotund, 5-20 x 2,5-10 mm. Disc corollas 4-6 mm, incl. basal appendages. Achenes of ray 3-5 x 1-3 mm; of disc 2,5-4 x 1-2 mm . Fl. 4-7. On limestone rocks and scree, sometimes in woodland, 1050-2000 m.
