Erect perennial herb with stout, tapering taproot. Stems simple or rarely branched in lower part, 15-55 cm, sparsely hairy to glabrous. Basal leaves long-petiolate, ovate, oblong or linear, lamina 20-150 x2-25 mm, acute to obtuse, base attenuate into petiole, softly tomentose or pilose, without tuberculate-based trichomes, or glabrescent with numerous calcified tubercles; lower cauline oblong or linear, attenuate at base, upper broadly ovate, acuminate, amplexicaul. Cymes numerous, forming a very large terminal corymb. Pedicels greatly enlarging in fruit. Calyx 3-5-8 mm, lobes ± ovate, very densely white-lanate. Corolla pink, drying deep blue, 7-12 mm, campanulate-cylindrical, tube 1/3 –1/4 x limb. Faucal appendages subquadrate, apex emarginate. Stamens included, filaments all equal, 2/3-1 1/2 anther length. Style 7-16 mm, usually exserted. Nutlets ± orbicular, 14-26 x 15-23 mm, smooth, wing with smooth or undulate often blue margin, without glochids.
