Annual. Stems ± ascending, not rooting near the base. Leaves linear, ciliate near the base, long-mucronate. Flowers 4-merous, solitary. Pedicels glabrous or glandular-hairy in the upper part. Sepals hooded at the apex, the outer two mucronate. Petals white, minute, often quickly caducous. Capsule equalling or exceeding the spreading to adpressed, persistent sepals. Fl. 5-8. Forests, pasture, boggy ground, stream banks, s.l-2000 m.
Widespread, exact distribution uncertain.
