Glabrous intricately-branched shrub or subshrub to 35 cm, with swollen root, older branches usually terminating in forked spines. Cauline and ray-leaves elliptic, 0.5-2 x 0.2-0.5 cm, obtuse or subacute, mucronulate, entire. Raylet-leaves obovate, 4-7 x 2-4 mm, cuneate, yellowish. Rays 3. Fruit 3.5 mm diam., verrucose. Seeds 2 mm, brown. Fl. 3-5. Dry rocky limestone slopes, serpentine slopes under Pinus brutia, 30-300 m.
