Erect or ascending perennial, 20-40 cm. Stipules with linear-subulate free portions. Leaflets 0,5-1,2 cm, linear to oblong-lanceolate. Inflorescence ovoid to ovoid-oblong, 1,5-3 cm wide, pedunculate. Calyx cylindrical, becoming campanulate; tube 10-nerved, spreading hairy, in fruit closed by a 2-lipped callosity; teeth subulate, acute, stellate or reflexed in fruit. Corolla white to cream, to 25 mm, c. 2 x as long as the calyx, standard c. 4 mm broad with an attenuated, subacute tip. Fl. 6-8. Meadows, forest clearings, steppe, 300-2350 m.
Endemic. Subsp. pannonicum differs from subsp. elongatum in its longer and relatively wider leaflets, its larger inflorescences, wider standard with an obtuse tip, and in its calyx with a less densely hairy tube and narrower lobes.
