Erect shrub up to 1 m. Old branches whitish-brown, the bark fibrous and peeling. Young branches greyish white, sulcate. Branches often persisting as spines. Leaves shortly petiolate, ovate to orbicular, glaucous and glabrous. Pedicels jointed at about the middle. Perianth 4-merous. Stamens 6. Styles 2. Fruiting perianth pink, the two outer sepals smaller than the inner sepals, reflexed. Fruit lenticular. Fl. 6-8. Dry hillsides and slopes.
