Perennial up to 60 cm. Basal leaves c. 2 x longer than broad, fleshy, often panduriform. Glomeruli ofthe inflorescence remote. Pedicels thick, rigid, shorter than to as long as the inner perianth segments, articulated near the middle. Inner perianth segments usually toothed, rarely almost entire, 2,5-4,5 mm broad, all tuberculate. Fl. 5-7. Dunes, roadsides, ditches, s.l-1300 m.
