Perennial herb. Stem sparsely branched, to 50 cm. Leaves elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, 10-25 x 3-7 cm, gradually narrowing into a rather flattish petiole, apex obtuse, midrib excurrent as 1-3mm setaceous mucro. Scapes paniculately branched below middle, branches slender, widely spreading. Spikes lax, ± unilateral, with remotely spaced spikelets, terminal on scape branches. Spikelets 2.5-4 mm, 1-flowered. Outer bract broadly ovate, 1-1.5 mm, ± hyaline; first inner bract ovate to orbicular, twice as long as outer bract, hyaline; second inner bract orbicular, 3-4 x as long as outer bract, strongly concave, with broad hyaline margin. Calyx obconical, 2-3 mm; tube pilose on 2 veins and at base; limb ± plicate, 10-lobed, primary lobes obtuse-triangular. Petals pale violet. Fl. 7-8. Alt. nr s.l.-750 m.
