Fronds floating, all with roots, solitary or several joined together by short hyaline stipes, usually green above , scarcely purple beneath, 1.5-4 mm, ovate to elliptic, often almost symmetrical, never gibbous; air spaces usually not more than 0.3 mm, often weakly visible; veins 3, if with 4-5 veins, outer one branching at base of inner ones; papillae absent or prominent only at apex and above node; fruits scarcely winged; seeds 1, with 10-16 ribs. Fl. 7. Lakes, rivers, pools, ditches, channels, marshes; rice fields, s.l.-1950 m.
