Perennial, suffruticose, with branched woody caudex. Leaves obovate-spathu1ate, 20-40 x 5-14 mm, obtuse or apicu1ate, gradually narrowing into a slender petiole, dying before end of flowering. Scapes compoundly paniculate nearly from base, lower branches sterile. Spikes densely imbricate. Spikelets 2-flowered, 2-3 mm. Outer bract broadly ovate, 1-1.4 mm, hyaline; first inner bract similar; second inner bract subobovate, 2 x outer bract, concave, hyaline except at base. Calyx obconical; tube pilose; limb 5-lobed, lobes ovate, obtuse. Petals bluish-violet. Fl. 6-9. Inland salt steppe, 900-1040 m.
