Perennial herb. Tuber depressed-globular to sub-globular. 2.5-3 cm in diam. Leaves 2-3; petioles 8-20 cm, lamina linear, narrowly-elliptic, lanceolate or oblanceolate, 6-15 x 0.6-3 cm. Peduncle subterranean, 2-5 cm long, 3.5-5 mm thick. Spathe 4-5 cm long; spathe tube c. 3 cm long, 1.8-2 cm in diam.; spathe lamina 1.8-2 cm long, terminating in a c. 2 mm long mucro, exterior greenish to light green, sometimes with a reddish tinge, interior purplish-red. Spadix 7-8 cm long; appendix elongate-conoid to ± sub-cylindrical, 4-4.5 cm long, 7-11 mm diam., dark yellow, except for the reddish-purple basal 7-10 mm; stipe 5-6 mm long, 3-4 mm thick, cream-coloured. Flowers unisexual, glabrous; pistillodes absent; pistillate flowers in c. 4 spiral rows arranged in a 2-2.5 mm high hemispherical cluster at base. Infructescence borne at soil level; peduncle 3-5 cm long, c. 5-10m thick, whitish, 3-3.5 cm in diam., c. 2 cm thick, consisting of c. 50 berries in a depressed-globular cluster; berries obovoid, 6-10 x 4-7 mm; pericarp whitish, sometimes with a very slight reddish tinge basally, 0.4-0.7x10m thick. Seeds obovoid, 5.5-7.5 x 4-5.5 mm; testa with upper part very slightly irregular-reticulate. Lower part smooth. 2n=26. Fl. 5-6; Fr. 5-6 . Holes or crevices on limestone rocks, among garique, 30-60m.
