Tuber near globose, 40 x 20-30 mm. Petioles 9-17 cm, pale, more rarely brownish purple, not purple-spotted; sheaths,7-11 cm. Lamina with 3 main lobes, 6.5-13.5 x 2-4 cm; middle lobe oblong-lanceolate, 6.5-13.5 x 0.9-4 cm, obtuse or subacute, veins running parallel in lower part to form a composite midrib, diverging at ± equal intervals; lateral lobes subequal to or much shorter than middle lobe, linear, ± obtuse, flat or bent inwards, sometimes with shorter secondary lobes. Scape 5-19 cm, strongly thickened at base of spathe. Spathe 8-16 x 2-6.5 cm, tube. purplish near base inside, whitish in upper half; lamina broadly ovate to ovate-lanceolate, usually curved inwards above spadix, green outside, maroon and smooth inside. Spadix 4.5-7 cm; female zone 10-20 mm, sterile zone 12-20 mm, male zone 5-9 mm. Sterile flowers 4-5 mm, not rigid, ± patent. Appendix cylindrical to conical, 8-33 x 3-8 mm, dark maroon to blackish-purple, shortly stipitate or sessile. Fl. 3-5. Open stony limestone hillsides, cornfields, waste places, 335-1750 m.
