Erect or ascending, sparsely pubescent annual. Stems branched from base, 10-35 cm. Leaves 2,5-7 cm, oblong-oblanceolate in outline, 2-pinnatisect into oblanceolate lobes, 3-5 x 1-1,5 mm, acute. Capitula radiate; peduncles 5-10 cm, scarcely becoming thickened. Involucre 0,75-1 cm broad; phyllaries glabrous, usually with narrow dark margins, outer ovate, inner oblong-spathulate, obtuse or subacute. Receptacle hemispherical; paleae oblong, ± abruptly acute, readily deciduous. Ray flowers 15-20; ligules 0,75-1,25 cm. Disc corollas 2,5-3 mm, becoming inflated at base and enveloping top of achene. Achenes obconical, terete, 2-2,5 mm, ± thickly ribbed; those of rays bearing rounded scarious auricles c. 2 mm, those of disc exauriculate, thickly rimmed at apex. Fl. 3-6. Roadsides and calcareous soil near sea, s.I.-1000 m.
