Tall, dioecious, woody climber with leaf-opposed tendrils. Leaves deciduous, palmately lobed, cordate at base, coarsely toothed, those of the male plant usually more deeply lobed than in the female, often tomentose beneath when young. Flowers unisexual. Berry sour, c.5-7 mm, blackish-purple when ripe; seeds as in key. FI. 5-6. Deciduous forests, or climbing over trees near water, nr. s.I.-1600 m.
