Annual ? to perennial, 8-80 cm. Stemsd usually unbranched. Leaves lanceolate to broadly oblong, attenuate above, adpressed villous, margin often undulate. Peduncles very slightly thickened below fruiting capitula. Phyllaries 8-13, lanceolate, tomentose, sometimes with black hairs, shorter than flowers, 2-3.5 cm in flowering capitulum, 3-4.5 cm in fruiting capitulum. Flowers yellow. Achenes 20-25 mm, with short scales for whole length,beak imdistinct, slightly clavate at apex. Pappus 25-30 mm, greyish-brown, annulus very sparsely hairy. Fl. 5-7. Meadows, steppe, 870-1920 m.
