Perennial subscapigerous to short caulescent, up to 17 cm tall herb. Rootstock thick, ca 5 mm in diameter, cylindrical, almost without remains of the bases of former leaves. Flowering stem erect, solid, crisped-pubescent to villous, mostly at base, 2-3 mm in diam below, rarely branched in the middle and lower part and bearing a single capitulum. Leaves linear-lanceolate, typically curwed backward, 6-11 x 0,5-1,3 cm, crisped pubescent beneath , base semiamplexicaule, apex acute to acuminate, margin deeply undulate, gradually narrowed towards the base ; cauline leaves sessile, the main veins conspicuous, very similar to the basal leaves, but decreasing in size upwards. Capitula 1-2 per stem, homogamous, ligulate, 25-35 x 5-7 mm at flowering, 30-40 x 8-12 mm when mature. Outer phyllaries 11-14 x 5-7 mm below, ca ½-1/3 x inner phyllaries, straight, ovate to broadly acuminate, outer surface slightly pubescent, inner surface glabrous, with a conspicuous main vein; inner phyllaries 20-35 x 7-11 mm, linear to lanceolate, acute, curved backward at apex, outer surface pubescent above, inner surface glabrous, outer surface greenish but sometimes greenish to purple and with scarious margin below. Flowers yellow, ligules longer than inner phyllaries, outer surface slightly striped, ca 16 mm long, 2,5 mm wide, tube 5 mm, ligules 5 toothed, teeth ca 0,2 mm long; style branches filiform, each 2,5-4,0 mm long, obtuse, shorter than the ligule. Achenes 12-16 x 2-3 mm, cylindrical, very pale brownish, slightly sulcate, ridged, smooth, glabrous; pappus creamish to very pale brownish, 13-15 mm long, hairs plumose with white fimbriae in basal portion, barbellate above.
