Height 12-40 cm. Rootstock with stolons. Stems terete, longitudinally striped, ± woolly-shaggy. Cauline leaves distinct from basal , loosely or densely woolly-villous; basal 2-3-pinnatisect, oblong-ovate, incl. petiole 3-10 x 1-3 cm, with linear-lanceolate segments, ultimate lobes acuminate, 0.5-0.7 mm broad, rachis narrow, entire or dentate; upper cauline small, oblong-ovate, 2-3 x 1-1.5 cm, mostly 1-pinnatisect, with lobes 0.8-1.3 mm broad, rachis 1-2 mm. Capitula 50-150 and more, corymbs 2-6 cm broad, peduncles 1-3 mm. Involucre obovoid to oblong, 3-3.5 x2-2.5 mm. Phyllaries lanceolate to lanceolate-oblong, acute to obtuse, with narrow scarious brownish margins, villous. Ligules 4-6, white, 1-2.5 mm; disc flowers 5-15. Fl. 6-8. Stony slopes, limestone rocks, alpine meadows, 1200-3000 m.
