Dwarf cushion-forming shrub, 10-20 cm; stems glabrous. Leaf rachis spiny, 2-5 cm, straight. Leaflets 3-11 mm, narrowly elliptic, spine-tipped, sparsely simple-pilose on both surfaces, or glabrous above, 4-6-paired. Stipules 6-12 mm, narrowly triangular to lanceolate, sparsely pilose or glabrous. Flowers sessile, 3-4 per leaf axil. Inflorescence ±globose, 1,5-3 cm diam., 6-20-flowered. Bracts 8-11 mm, ovate-lanceolate, navicular, pilose towards the apex. Bracteoles 10-12 mm, linear, pilose, resembling the calyx lobes. Calyx 10-15 mm, densely pilose; lobes divided to the base. Flowers pink, mauve or purple; standard 13-17 mm. Style hairy. Fl. 5-7. Forest, steppe, rocky slopes, 500-1900 m.
