Scabrid perennial. Stems decumbent or ascending-erect, to 50 cm, virgate, leafy, simple or branched from base, ± rigid. Lower cauline leaves ovate, oblong, acute, or obtuse, 3-6x0.4-1 cm, entire or crenate-dentate, gradually narrowed into to 4 cm petiole; upper lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, sessile, sometimes slightly amplexicaul, acuminate. Flowers erect, sessile, axillary in lax spicate inflorescence, or terminal, solitary. Calyx lobes triangular to linear-lanceolate, obtuse, erect, scabrid, setulose or glabrous. Calyx appendages reticulate, ovate,obtuse, much accrescent, inflated after anthesis, completely concealing ovary and capsule. Corolla cylindrical- infundibular, 15-25 mm long, divided to⅓ to nearly into erecto-patent-lobes, tomentose to glabrous, blue-violet to deep blue, rarely white. Style ± exserted.Stigmas 3. Capsule obconical, 5-7 x 4-5 mm. Seeds oblong, flattened, brown with pale margin.
