Hispid annual. Stems erect, ± flexuous, 8-30 cm, stiffly patent-hispid, subdichotomously branching from base or in upper part. Leaves oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 1-6 x 0·3-1·3 cm, usually obtuse, sessile, ± entire, antrorsely adpressed hairy. Flowers erect, terminal or in forks, peduncled. Calyx lobes ovate-lanceolate, abruptly subulate at tip, erect, 7-10 mm. Appendages obtuse, concealing turbinate ovary, like calyx lobes setose, accrescent in fruit. Corolla campanulate, 20-30 mm, 2 x calyx, divided to 1/3-1/2 , reddish purple to violet-blue, glabrous or sparsely hispid on nerves outside. Style included. Stigmas 3, short. Capsule nodding, enclosed by inflated connivent calyx lobes and appendages. Seeds oblong, 1 x 0·5 mm, yellowish, shiny. Fl. 4-5. Stony slopes,fallow fields, roadsides, nr s.l.-2000 m.
