Bulb oblong-ovoid, 1-2 cm diam.; outer tunics reddish-brown, fibrous-reticulate. Stem 10-30 cm. Leaves 3-4, filiform, 0.5-0.75 mm broad, canaliculate; lower sheaths pubescent, upper sometimes glabrous; lamina pubescent or glabrous. Spathe 1/4-1/2 x umbel; base forming a cup around pedicels, beak not persistent, ± equal to base. Umbel fastigiate, 1.5-3 cm diam., few-flowered, lax. Pedicels to 3.5 cm, very unequal, bracteolate. Perianth narrowly campanulate; segments whitish, greyish-white, yellowish, pinkish-white, pale pink, mauvish-pink or violet-red with green or purplish-green midvein, oblong-lanceolate, 6-7 mm, outer subacute, inner obtuse, lacerate in upper part, rarely toothed or entire. Filaments 2/3 x perianth segments, inner twice as broad as outer. Capsule c. 4 mm. Fl. 7-8. Quercus scrub, alpine steppe, rocky slopes on limestone and serpentine, cornfields, 400-2800 m.
