Bulb 2-4 cm diam.; tunics pinkish. Leaves 2-4, linear lanceolate, 10-30 x 1-2 cm, falcate and canaliculate, thick, apex abruptly narrowing and very shortly acuminate. Scape 15-30 cm, overtopping leaves. Raceme rather lax, cylindrical, 5-30 x 1.5-3 cm, 20-150-flowered. Pedicels of fertile flowers ± horizontal, as long as or slightly longer than perianth. Fertile flowers tubular-obovate, 5-7 x 3 mm, proximal 2/3 beige, distal 1/3 and shoulders brown, lobes yellowish-beige or dirty white. Pedicels of sterile flowers as long as or slightly longer than those of fertile flowers, ascending, forming a short dense conspicuous violet coma. Sterile flowers obovate-oblong, 5-7 mm, deep violet-amethyst. Capsule ovate to orbicular, 7-9 x 5-8 mm, subacute, valves not strongly compressed. Seeds 2.5 mm diam. 2n = 18. Fl. 4-6. Open Pinus sylvestris forest, igneous slopes, steppe, 650-2800 m.
