Bulb ovoid, 1.5-3 cm diam., solitary. Leaves 1 , erect, broadly linear-oblanceolate, 7-30 cm x 10-30 mm, basally sheathing, distally rather abruptly narrowed and often hooded, shortly acuminate. Scape 14-40 cm, erect, longer than leaf. Raceme dense at first, later becoming ± lax, cylindrical, 2-6 xc. 1.5 cm. Pedicels of fertile flowers spreading-deflexed, 4-5 mm, sometimes to 8 mm in fruit. Fertile flowers oblong-urceolate, 5-6 xc. 3 mm, strongly constricted above, tube deep violet-black; lobes c. 1/6 x as long as tube, slightly recurved, pale lilac. Stamens biseriate, attached at and above middle of tube. Sterile flowers to 18, narrowly obovate-oblong, 4-8 mm, amethyst to pale violet. Capsule ovate-orbicular, 7-8 mm, emarginate. Seeds 2-2.5 mm diam. 2n = 18 . Fl. 4-5. Pinus nigra and P. sylvestris forests, 1100-1800 m.
