Ssp hirsutus: Kıllı ayıpençesi; Ssp syriacus: Arap ayıpençesi

Erect herb. 10-45 cm, ± densely long-pubescent to hirsute. Basal leaves with 2-6 cm petiole; lamina 6-25 cm, pinnatifid, pinnae acute, lacerate, spinescent, densely pubescent on veins, both surfaces pubescent. Bracts broadly ovate, acute, lacerate-spinose, greenish or yellowish, pubescent and minutely glandular-hairy, 7-11-veined. Bracteoles linear-lanceolate, aristate, entire. Corolla pale greenish-yellow, minutely glandular-hairy outside, glandular- and eglandular-hairy within. Style pilose in lower 1/3. Ovary glabrous except for densely pilose apex. Fl. 5-7. Pinus brutia forest, steep non-lime slopes, steppe, fallow fields, etc., 800-1800 m.

Endemic, occurring in both Medit. and Ir.-Tur. areas.
