 Plant 15-130 cm. Leaves usually aerial; petiole mostly 7-20 cm, in deep water to 100 cm; lamina 7-18 x 2-5 cm, variously lanceolate to elliptic ,gradually tapering to acute apex, attenuate at base. Sepals 1.5-3 mm. Petals pink, lilac or white, 4-6.5 mm, ± acuminate. Anthers c. 1 mm, elliptic. Styles 0.5-1 mm, often slightly curved, stigmatose in upper 1/2-2/3. Achenes 2-2.5 mm, elliptic, with thin translucent lateral pericarp. 2n = 26. Fl. 4-9. Lake shores, ditches, pools, swamps, usually in shallow stagnant water, s.l.-1850 m.
