 Green or reddish annual, 30-100 cm, downy-hairy above . Leaves 3-8 x 2-6 cm, rhomboid-ovate, long-petiolate. Inflorescence a leafless, bright green panicle, terminal pseudo-spikes usually slender and elongate, often somewhat loose. Longer bracteoles 2-6 mm, with sharp-pointed apices. Perianth segments 5, ±elongate-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, finely acuminate, sometimes mucronulate, shorter than or as long as the fruit. Fruit lip wrinkled. Fl. 5-7. Waste places, s.l.
