Glaucous, glabrous perennial, exceeding 1m; stock very robust and branched. Leaves cordate or narrowly deltoid, entire, weakly crinkled. Inflorescence long-branched, paniculate, leafy to the apex, the bracts exceptionally large , rounded or broadly ovate, bristle-tipped, many-nerved. Flowers in groups of 1-4. Perianth segments spreading, narrowly ovate, herbaceous, weakly keeled, with a narrow, clear, entire margin; the lower, united part of the perianth rounded, without keels or angles. Fl. 5-7. Steppe and in grain fields.
