Bulb ovoid or subglobose, 2-3 cm diam.; outer tunics greyish, inner white. Stem 30-80 cm, stout. Leaves 3-5, lorate-laneeolate, 20-40 mm broad, flat, ± erect, tapering above. slightly undulate, scabridulous at margin, shorter than scape. Spathe persistent, 2-3-lobed. Umbel hemispherical, 4-8 cm diam., many-flowered, dense. Pedicels 3-4 x perianth at anthesis. Perianth stellate, finally reflexed; segments deep purple, linear, 6-7 mm, obtuse. Filaments c. as long as perianth segments. Anthers deep purple. Ovary green or purplish; style as long as stamens or distinctly shorter. Capsule 7-8 mm; valves somewhat longer than broad. Fl. 4. Cultivated land, 1500-1800 m.
