Bulb 2-3 cm diam., outer tunics papery. Stem 10-60 cm, 5-12mm thick, ribbed. Leaves 2-7, 10-40 mm broad, with long reflexed hairs beneath and especially on margin, very rarely subglabrous. Spathe 2.5 cm, apiculate. Umbel hemispherical to spherical, many-flowered, lax. Pedicels ±purple, subequal, to 11 cm in fruit. Perianth stellate; segments purplish-violet, linear-triangular, 10-15 mm, narrow, pointed, erect, rigid, with margins involute after anthesis. Filaments reaching 1/2 length of perianth segments from a broadened base, suddenly narrowed and thread-like, dark purple. Capsule broadly obovoid, 5-9 mm broad, attenuate towards base, substipitate.
