Bulb globose, c. 1-1.5 cm diam.; outer tunics greyish-brown, coriaceous, inner white, membranous. Stem 15-30 cm, usually purple at base. Valves of spathe narrowly lanceolate, at least one valve much longer than umbel, usually deciduous. Umbel hemispherical, 2.5-5 cm diam., lax. Pedicels filiform, 3-5 x perianth, bracteolate at base. Perianth cylindrical-campanulate; segments pale lilac with green midvein, oblong, 4 mm, obtuse or truncate, sometimes with an abrupt, retrorse apex. Filaments white or purple, 1.5 x perianth segments. Ovary obovoid, 2 mm, truncate, slightly stipitate; style 6 mm, strongly exserted. Capsule broadly cordate, 3-4 mm. 2n =16. Fl. 7-8. Dry stony slopes, rocky places, 550-2000 m.
