Bulb 17-40 x 12-35 mm. Leaves 20-40 cm x 5-13 mm, flat, ± glaucous. Scape 25 cm or more, compressed. Spathe 35-50 mm, scarious. Flowers solitary, bicoloured. Pedicel 17-30 mm. Hypanthial tube 20-30 mm, cylindrical, slender. Perianth segments pure white, 20-30 x 10-20 mm, narrowly obovate to suborbicular, ±imbricate. Corona yellow with red margin, 1-2.5 x 13-17 mm, ±discoid, crenulate. Stamens unequal, in two distinct whorls, upper whorl partly exserted, lower included; anthers dorsifixed on very short filaments. Fl. 4-5. Cultivated and possibly naturalised. 

S. Europe E. to N.W. Greece; naturalised elsewhere. Subsp. radiiflorus  Baker  occurs in southern C. Europe and the Balkan peninsula.
