Erect stout annual or biennial. Stem 15-100 cm. Leaves 2-pinnate, triangular-ovate in outline, 7-18 x 5-12 cm, glabrous, green, ultimate segments 1-2-pinnatisect; lobes linear or linear-filiform, 5-25 x 0.5-1 mm, apiculate. Umbels long-pedunculate, rays c. 30-150, spreading, 1-9 cm, slender in flower, becoming erect and thickened in fruit; bracts numerous, 1-2-pinnatisect with filiform-subulate lobes, usually equalling rays; umbellule many-flowered, fruiting pedicels thickened; bracteoles simple, subulate. Mericarps c. 2 x 1 mm. Fl. 5-8. Fallow fields and plains, s.l-700 m.
