Stems erect, branched, up to 50 cm, indumentum of short fine hairs and longer, glochidiate setae. Leaves with 5-7 oblong, deeply toothed leaflets, pubescent on both surfaces, setose along the veins beneath. Rays as many as bracts. Bracts 3-7, scarious, much shorter than the rays. Bracteoles lanceolate or obovate. Petals white, the outer 5-7 mm. Fruit ± globose, compressed, 9-10 mm, the whole surface densely pilose, both mericarps with 3 ridges each bearing 7-10 contiguous, large, broad-based spines alternating with 4 obscure ridges bearing shorter, subulate spines. FI. 6. Fields, cultivated land, 980-1400 m.
