Stout erect perennial; stems 1-3 m, terete, papillate. Basal leaves 2-pinnate, with petiole 30-70 cm, ultimate segments 2-13 cm, broadly elliptic, simple to 3-sect, crenate; leaf lamina with stellate hairs beneath. Umbels 5-15-rayed; umbellules 5-12-flowered; bracts and bracteoles 2-5, linear. Flowers yellow. Mericarps 7-12 x4-5 mm, elliptic, ± glabrous; margin 2-3 mm wide. Fl. 5-7. Fields, stony places, salt deposits, etc., 50-1700 m.
