Rootstock cylindrical, woody, to 1.5 cm thick. Stems 20-30 cm long and not more than 2 mm thick, simple or branched at the base, flexuous, sparsely hirtellous. Leaves cordate-ovate, 3.5-5.5 x 3-5 cm, obtuse or emarginate, rarely mucronate, hirtellous, more densely so on under surface, auricles as long as broad, rounded; petiole 1-3 cm. Peduncles to 2 cm, pubescent. Perianth 2-3.5 cm, greenish and hirtellous outside; utricle 7-10 x 4-6 mm, oblong; tube U-curved, c. 2 mm broad at base, gradually dilated to 7 mm above; limb c. 1.2 x 1.2 cm, broadly cordate or rotund, reddish-purple or maroon, and densely hirsute inside, auricles c. 2 mm, apex shortly mucronate, often incurved. Ovary puberulous, obovoid-globose. Capsule 2-3 cm . Fl 3-4. Pinus brutia forest, serpentine hills, limestone slopes, and in shady Quercus coccifera macchie, s.l-610 m.
