Woody, with long, trailing or scrambling, sinuous, striate-ridged stems, greenish, the ridges papillose at least when young, becoming purplish-brown with age. Spur 2-4 mm. Cladodes 5-10 per echinate fascicle, subequal, patent, subterete, green, 3-8 x 0.2-0.4 mm, glabrous, apex spinose. Flowers usually 1 per fascicle. Pedicels surrounded by a group of bracteoles. Male perianth 3-4 mm, yellowish or greenish; anthers 1 mm. Berry black, 4.5-7 mm; seeds 1-2. Fl. 8-9. Pinus woods, macchie, disturbed ground, banks, roadsides, nr s.l.-1525 m.
