Height 25-50 cm. Leaves densely adpressed silky-tomentose, basal 2-3-pinnatifid to pinnatisect, lanceolate-oblong, 3-5 x 1-1.5 cm, ultimate lobes linear-lanceolate, 1-1.5 mm broad, cauline soon smaller and less dissected. Capitula 12-15, corymbs 3-4 cm broad, peduncles 2-12 mm. Involucre broadly ovoid to hemispherical, 6 x 5-6 mm. Phyllaries ovate to oblong, obtuse, with narrow pellucid brownish margins, pubescent. Ligules 5-7, white, 2-3 mm, disc flowers c. 25-30. FI. 6-7. Alt. c. 1500 m.
Endemic. E. Medit. element. Var. fraasii from S. & W. Greece, Albania, Jugoslavia , differs mainly in having a subcylindrical involucre and narrower leaf segments.
