Perennial with woody rootstock, steril rosettes and several nearly always simple stems, 5-25cm, forming small tufts. Leaves white-tomentose, loosely grey-tomentose or green and scabrous; lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, entire, denticulate or with few coarse teeth or lobes, upper always entire. Involucre 16-23 x 7-19 mm, nearly cylindrical. Appendages small, straw-coloured or brown, patent to reflexed, triangular with 2-5 cilia on each side mm) and a terminal 1-7 mm spinule. Flowers yellow, marginal not radiant. Achenes 5-6 mm; pappus 7-10 mm, barbellate to plumose, sometimes easily deciduous. Fl. 6-8.
