Perennial, 30-80 cm, stem erect, branched in upper part with several ±corymbosely arranged capitula. Leaves scabrous with septate hairs; pinnatisect with unequal narrowly or broadly lanceolate or oblong segments 5-10mm, broad , segments entire or ±pinnately lobed or with one large basal lobe. Involucre ovoid, 20-25 x 15-20 mm. Appendages straw-colored with narrow decurrent margin with 4-10 cilia on each side, ending in a 5-20 mm spinule or spine. Flowers yellow , marginal only slightly radiant. Achenes 4-5 mm; pappus 8-11 mm. Fl. 6-7. Dry hills, macchie, fields and roadsides, s.l.-300m.
