Erect non-stoloniferous biennial or perennial with glabrous or floccose stems 30-150 cm. Basal leaves usually withering before flowering, petiolate, lyrate to pinnatifid with large terminal lobe, all lobes sinuate-dentate to pinnatifid; cauline shortly petiolate to ± amplexicaul, 1-2-pinnatifid; all leaves ± glabrous, or sparsely floccose below. Capitula radiate, borne in a dense, flat-topped corymb, 1,5-2 cm broad. Phyllaries 7-10 mm, oblong-lanceolate, ± glabrous. Calycular bracts c. 1-2 mm. Ligules 7-9 mm, yellow. Achenes 2 mm, those of ray flowers glabrous, those of disc hairy. Pappus c. 4 mm. Fields, c. 300 m.
