Biennial or monocarpic. Stems 1-several, to 50 cm, with shrivelled remains of petioles at base, erect to ascending, branched above, densely clothed with long white stout setae. Leaves 4-10 cm, linear, linear-spathulate or linear-lanceolate, sessile, subacute, densely covered with setae arising from white tubercles above, hairy on both surfaces. Inflorescence of numerous cymes which become elongated and straight after flowering. Bracts lanceolate. Pedicels 1-3 mm in flower, to 10 mm in fruit, densely setose. Calyx 15-20 mm, lobes linear-lanceolate. Corolla whitish to pale yellow, 18-22 mm, cylindrical-campanulate, glabrous or puberulous. Annulus hairy. Anthers included or with sterile tips exserted. Nutlets 6x4.5 mm, with gibbous shoulders and with sharp ventral and indistinct dorsal keel, beak strongly incurved, obtuse, pale grey. Fl. 5-7. Field margins, rocky slopes, steppe, 400-2300 m.
