Large scabrid perennial, 60-120 cm. Leaves ovate to elliptic-lanceolate, cordate or rounded at base, shortly petiolate to sessile. Flowers 10-20. Calyx 3-6 mm, divided to c. ½  or almost to base, lobes linear-lanceolate, obtuse. Corolla pink at first, turning sky-blue or lilac, 12-15 mm, tube 2 x calyx; scales broadly linear to lanceolate, ± equalling stamens. Nutlets 4 mm, base constricted, strongly areolate-granulate. Fl. 5-8. Picea forests, meadows, stream banks and shady places, 700-2200 m.
Caucasia, N. &N.W. Iran. Hyrcano-Euxine element. Related to S. armeniacum.
