Slender villous perennial, 10-40 cm. Lower leaves ovate-elliptic, petiole winged, equalling lamina; upper ovate, subsessile or with short, broadly winged petiole. Flowers c. 10. Calyx 6-8 mm, accrescent to 10 mm in fruit, divided to ¾ , lobes lanceolate, acute. Corolla white, tube 4,5-6 mm, lobes 1 ½ -2 x tube, spirally contorted above; scales subulate, c. 6 mm; filaments c. 11 mm, with hairy collar c. 1,5 mm from base. Nutlets 3-4 mm, erect, reticulate. 2n=28. Fl. 3-5. Stream banks, rocks, crevices, shade, s.l-1000 m.
