Intricately branched spiny shrub, tufted, up to 40 cm diam., 5-15 cm high. Branches spirally arranged, spinescent. Leaves alternate, linear-oblong or oblanceolute, obtuse to shortly upiculate, 1.5-6 x 1 mm, sessile or shortly petiolate, mostly confined to sterile shoots. Sepals greenish-white, margins broadly membranous, c. 2 x 1 mm, not saccate. Petals oblanceolate-spathulate, white or pinkish-white, c. 4 mm, 3-nerved at base. Filaments free, entire, dilated at base; anthers slightly apiculate, Inflorescence loosely capitate, elongating in fruit to 1 cm, 1-10-flowered. Ovary bilocular, 1-ovulate in each loculus. Fruiting pedicels ± adpressed to axis, 1.5-3 mm. Siliculae elliptic-oblong, 4-4.5 x 2.5-3.5 mm; septum c. 3 x 1 mm; wing entire, 0.5-1 mm; sinus 0.5-0.8 mm; style 0.5 mm. Seeds 2, light brown; radicle accumbent. Fl. 6-7. On calcareeous stony slopes on mountain steppe, 1500-1600 m.
