Annual, up to 25 cm. Leaves oblanceolate or obovate-spathulate. Racemes strict, up to 15 cm, branches, if present, divergent or ascending. Sepals deciduous. Petals gradually attenuate, emarginate or entire, 0.4-0.9 mm wide. Fruits with mono-morphic indumentum of large or small stellate hairs with equal or unequal rays; valves ± unequally inflated. Styles 0.5-1 mm, rigid, hairy. Seeds winged, wing 0.3-0.4 mm wide. Two varieties may be recognised:
1. Styles 0.7-1.3 mm; fruit hairs with equal rays var. minus
1. Styles 1-2 mm; fruit hairs with unequal rays var. micranthum
1. Styles 1-2 mm; fruit hairs with unequal rays var. micranthum
var. collinum
Differs from other varieties by the glabrous style. Fl. 4-5. Roadsides, fields, 50-1100 m.
