Annual, 30-60 cm, sub-simple or branched. Basal leaves lyrate, runcinate or pinnatifid with branched eglandular hairs and short glandular tubercles; upper leaves entire, toothed, sessile. Petals 10 x 5 mm. Style 3 mm; stigma large capitate. Ovary 4-ovulate. Fruiting pedicels 15-22 mm. Fruit 13 x 11 mm , without any line ofdehiscence, 3-4-seeded; each seed enclosed within a hard endocarp. Radicle in juvenile fruit simply incumbent, cotyledons later becoming spirally, usually loosely, inrolled. Fl. 4-6. Cornfields, fallow ground, etc., s.l.-100 m.
