Perennial 40-120 cm, with a much branched, loose inflorescence and large,scabrous, rarely glabrous=var. glaberrima- leaves. Lower leaves oblong-lanceolate, coarsely lobed or toothed or more often pinnatisect with 4-5 lobes. Upper leaves much smaller, entire, shortly petiolate. Petals white, rarely yellow -subsp. sulphurea- as long as broad. Fruiting pedicels 4-8 mm. Fruit 3.5 x 3.5-4 mm, basal member 0.5-1 mm. Fl. 5-7. Cultivated places, fallow fields, dry slopes, 500-2800 m.
